The state government funding will mean three positions – caseworker, counsellor and intake worker – can be renewed this financial year.
“These funds will enable us to continue to provide the highest quality services to women who are experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence, or are striuggling with mental heath challenges,” the centre said.
The pandemic has seen demand for the centre’s services jump significantly – last year, emergency walk-ins doubled, while women experiencing homelessness and in need of crisis appointments tripled.
Illawarra Women’s Health Centre general manager Sally Stevenson thanked Shellharbour MP Anna Watson for her advocacy work on behalf of the centre, and Health Minister Brad Hazzard.
“I am so pleased to have been able to secure this vital funding for the centre,” Ms Watson said.
“This funding boost will ensure that local women experiencing family and domestic violence will have quicker access to the critical support services provided by the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre.”
